Ending the leaking agony, Samsung officially unveiled the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ today at an event at MWC in Barcelona, Spain. As expected, Samsung has made some changes to the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ design but retains the cool 18.5:9 Infinity Display that the company introduced with the Galaxy S8 family.
If we talk about the differences first, the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ Quad HD+ Curved Super AMOLED screens have different sizes, which is 5.8-inch for the Galaxy S9 and 6.2-inch for the Galaxy S9+, 4GB RAM for the smaller Galaxy S9 and 6GB RAM for the bigger one and 3000mAh and 3500mAh battery for Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ respectively.
As far as other features are concerned, both devices will be powered by Samsung’s Exynos or Snapdragon 845 (in select markets), internal storage from 64GB with support for a microSD card slot, fast charge and wireless charging support, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, LTE Cat. 18 support, Samsung Pay and DeX Pad. The phones are secured by Knox 3.1 and supports three biometric authentication options – iris, fingerprint sensor (which is at the right place!) and facial recognition.
Samsung hyped up the camera a lot prior to the launch and rightly so. The back 12MP dual sensor supports Samsung Dual Aperture (f/1.5-f/2.4) that automatically lets in more light when it’s dark and less light when it’s too bright. Moreover, the camera is now able to record slow-motion videos at 960fps, AR Emoji that works like Apple’s Animoji but scans and creates a 3D model of the user’s face and Bixby supporting live translation, convert currency, etc.
Samsung has also worked on the audio front that has stereo speakers tuned by AKG and surround sound by Dolby Atmos.
The phone will go on sale from March 16 in select markets in Midnight Black, Titanium Gray, Coral Blue and Lilac Purple colours. As for United States, the phone will be up for pre-order from March 2 and AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, Verizon Wireless and Xfinity mobile will carry both the devices in stores beginning March 16, 2018 along with number of retailers. Customers will also be able to purchase the phones unlocked through Samsung’s own website and app for $719.99 for the Galaxy S9 and $839.99 for the Galaxy S9+.
Asad says
Galaxy S9+ is no doubt better option than S9. Yet I want to share my opinion that the era of rugged phones have started like that Doogee S60, unbrokeable, waterproof, fireproof, 6GB RAM, 64GB ROM, 5580MAh battery, octa core and a very reasonable price is a plus. You may also search yourself Ulefone Armor 2, CAT S60 and AGM X2 too. Thanks. Hope my comment will be appreciated.
