Samsung today expanded its affordable smartphone lineup with four new phones for the Indian market. The company announced Galaxy A6 and Galaxy A6+ from the A-series and Galaxy J6 and Galaxy J8 phones from the J-series. The phones draw inspiration from its expensive siblings with its Infinity Design and 18.5:9 Super AMOLED display.
The Galaxy A-series duo is made from metal unibody that gives the phones a premium look and feel whereas the Galaxy J series phones are carved out of polycarbonate unibody. The new phones are spec’d similarly with the Galaxy A6 and the Galaxy J6 sporting a 5.6-inch HD+ display along with Exynos 7 series processor onboard with up to 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of onboard storage. The dual-SIM phones also have a dedicated microSD card slot that supports up to 256GB, Android Oreo and 3000mAh battery. The only difference is in the camera front with the Galaxy A6 sporting a 16MP f/1.7 camera at the back whereas the Galaxy J6 featuring a 13MP f/1.9 sensor. The front-facing camera on both the phones has a f/1.9 aperture with an LED flash and the megapixel count of 16MP and 8MP respectively. The Galaxy A6 will sell in 32GB and 64GB variants for Rs. 21,990 and 22,990 while the Galaxy J6’s 3GB/32GB variant will cost Rs. 13,990 and 4GB/64GB for Rs. 16,490.
The premium looking and feature-packed Galaxy A6+ and Galaxy J8 feature a 6-inch display with the former having Full HD+ resolution and latter coming with an HD+ resolution. Both expectedly, run Android Oreo out of the box with the CPU smarts provided by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 450 processor. Additionally, both have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, dedicated microSD card slot, 3500mAh battery and dual rear cameras – 16MP (f/1.7)+ 5MP (f/1.9). The front-facing camera on the Galaxy A6+ has a 24MP sensor while the Galaxy J8 has a 16MP one.
Couple of software optimisations these phones come with are video-over-chat feature and AI for shopping. With video-over-chat, any messages you get come as an overlay that helps to respond to the message as well as watch the video without having to pause it. The AI for shopping works with Samsung Mall app that shows recommendation and similar products when the user clicks a picture of a particular product. There’s face unlock as well as advanced memory management that saves media from social media directly to an external memory card.
The Galaxy A6+ is priced at Rs. 25,990 and the Galaxy J8 is priced at Rs. 18,990. All the phones will go on sale from tomorrow except for the Galaxy J8, which will sell from July onwards.
