Samsung shows off its foldable display at SDC 2018

Infinity Flex Display

Samsung’s foldable display is one step closer to commercial reality as the Korean giant unveiled a working prototype of a device sporting its foldable display.

Dubbed Infinity Flex Display, the details are scarce right now but Samsung has confirmed the display can be transformed into a 7.3-inch screen when fully opened and support Multi-active window that will enable users to use three apps simultaneously.

Since today’s announcement is just to showcase the tech that was under development, Samsung, understandably, did not reveal the design of the phone but the executive did confirm the phone inside the ugly case to be real and good looking.

Samsung is trying to court developers as the new screen will have its own challenges and to make developers ready for the new display tech, will release an emulator and other tools so that the devs are ready with their apps when a device with Infinity Flex Display hits the market.

Google also announced support for foldables to support app continuity and will be baked in Android itself in the future versions of Android.
