Samsung is serving the appetizer just before the major reveal this week in the form of a new smartwatch. The Galaxy Watch Active2 smartwatch now comes in two sizes – 40mm and 44mm with two style options: lightweight aluminium with a casual Fluoroelastomer (FKM) Band, and premium solid stainless steel with a leather strap with an option to personalise further with different straps.
The rotating bezel to navigate the UI is one of the highlights of using a Samsung smartwatch but this time, instead of a physical rotating bezel, Samsung has made it virtual. This allows Samsung to make the curved Super AMOLED screen bigger that complements the One UI.
On the wellness front, the smartwatch can track up to 39 workouts manually, comes with an updated Running Coach that helps to monitor running pace in real-time and tracks real-time stress and sleep. Samsung has also teamed up with the Calm app to provide assistance for guided meditation.
The Tizen OS running Galaxy Watch Active2 can also take advantage of Samsung’s ecosystem that gives the watch ability to take photos, record videos, switch between front and rear camera, use Wireless PowerShare from the smartphone to charge the watch, use Samsung Pay and even Bixby.
If we talk about the hardware, the 40mm smartwatch comes with a 1.2-inch 360×360 Super AMOLED display whereas the 44mm variant comes with a 1.4-inch screen. Dual-core Exynos 9110 powers the smartwatch with 768MB of RAM (or 1.5GB in LTE variant), 4GB of internal storage, Bluetooth 5.0, and 247mAh (40mm) or 340mAh battery (44mm).
The Galaxy Watch Active2 Bluetooth edition will start selling from September 27 for $279.99 for the 40mm version and $299.99 for the 44mm version with pre-orders starting from September 6. Customers who pre-order the Galaxy Watch Active2 on Samsung.com will also get a free Wireless Charger Portable Battery. The LTE variant will go on sale from the same day as well.
