Samsung today announced Q3 2010 results for the quarter ended September 30 2010. The Korean giant posted strong revenue of 40.23 trillion won on a consolidated basis which is said to be the best quarterly revenue recorded since Q4 2009.
The consolidated net income stood at 4.46 trillion won, an increase of 17 percent year-on-year and consolidates operating profit at 4.86 trillion won.
Samsung also published figures of individual businesses, out of which the semiconductor biz recorded the best quarterly earnings.
The Semiconductor business achieved consolidated sales of 10.66 trillion won with an operating profit of 3.42 trillion won. For Q4, Samsung expects an oversupply of DRAM with weak PC demand and decent demand for NAND.
The LCD panel business posted revenue of 8.10 trillion won with an operating profit of 520 billion won. As for the Q4 outlook, Samsung reckons weak demand for TV and monitor panels whereas demand will pick up for notebook panels.
The mobile handset is another biz where Samsung have posted strong profitability. The mobile handset sales were up 12 percent and recorded revenue of 11.12 trillion won with an operating profit of 1.13 trillion won. Samsung says they’ll try to increase its market share in Q4 with double digit operating profit.
Finally, the Digital Media business that includes TVs, cameras, IT solutions and appliances have posted a revenue of 14.13 trillion won which is a 10 percent increase year-on-year.
Samsung is expecting seasonal peak in TV sales in the fourth quarter and will expand its distribution channels.
