Samsung has announced to provide the Android 2.3 aka the Gingerbread update to most of its Galaxy devices. The devices that will be upgraded to the latest Android version includes Samsung’s top selling Galaxy S, Ace, Gio, Fit, Mini and Galaxy Tab. Korean Galaxy S, K, U and Galaxy A phones has also been confirmed to receive the update.
The initial Galaxy S Android 2.3 that made its way out must have been premature as Samsung plans to release the update first in UK and Nordic countries in mid-May (which should be anytime now) followed by other regions. Korean Galaxy S, K, U users will receive the update from tomorrow.
The Android 2.3 will improve performance that will consume less processing resources and sport an improved user interface making it more intuitive.
The update will be available via Kies.
where is for galaxy 5
@anyone: Almost all phones get just one update to the next Android version. Galaxy 5 already got one from 2.1>2.2, don’t expect more. Galaxy S was a high end device and very famous, so it got two updates 2.1>2.2>2.3, but that’s not possible for really cheap phones as it’s not profitable.
But I like this about Samsung, an update to almost all their phones..
Any idea about Galaxy 3? (gt-i5801)
It’s not on the list so it’s highly unlikely Galaxy 3 and 5 will receive it.
Guys, low end phones do NOT get more than 1 update. You already got an update to 2.2 on Galaxy 3 and Galaxy 5. There will be no 2.3 update.
Those phones on the list, except Galaxy S were all released with 2.2, so they are getting the next update to 2.3.
how about galaxy tab wifi only?? (p1010)
YooHoo!
Galaxy Gio will get v2.3
🙂
cheers! a happy gio user here
where is galaxy sl? will it receive 2.3 too?
what about the Galaxy SL i9003??
what about Galaxy 5 update to Android 2.3 ?
Guys, read comments. I already mentioned. Low end phones don’t get more than one update, so Galaxy 3/5 won’t be getting one, that’s for sure. They already got one to 2.2, which is more than enough for low end phones..
This is just not funny! Why should bigger or newer phones will get the update, that will bring more efficiency, being much more interesting on these low budget phones, than on the big ones!
If I had a phone firm, and I wanted to get a real high quality name, than I would update even 5 years old phones, just to give the service that I bought, when hearing the commercial everywhere, “we are the best”. But what we get is “make it cheaper”!
That sucks!

“but that’s not possible for really cheap phones as it’s not profitable.”
It is perfectly profitable (see http://www.geeksphone.com/ ), but it is more profitable for Samsung if you buy a phone every six months.
Yeah Galaxy Mini Got An Updated ^_^ i really like about samsung n i think I9003 got an updated to cuz it was a Galaxy S family so dont worry about it ^_^
Galaxy 3/A got an updated too dont worry about it only Galaxy 5 doesn’t have an update……..
I hope touchwiz 4.0 to be included.
We hope Samsung can provide the upgrade for Galaxy 3 (i5800/5801)
yes what about galaxy SL i9003? i hope that they’ll include SL with this update
You have forgot Galaxy Spica.
@yuteng5187 wat is Galaxy Spica? (joking) antique phone?
Did anyone actually get the update yet? I can’t see it in Kies, and I am in a nordic country..
Galaxy Spica please.. 😀
Galaxy 3 (GT-5800) is the same with procesor and memory (so basicly all insides) as Galaxy Mini so it’s not realy a problem for Samsung too upgrade the system to 2.3… and I hope they will undertand it and upgrade my phone 😉 I regreat not to wait 2 months, cause today for the same money I could get Galaxy Ace…what a shame ;/
i5801????????????????
Galaxy3 to when it’s time to upgrade to 2.3? Samsung could give me a reply? My E-mail address:[email protected]
how can i update my galaxy mini to 2.3 ?
Not available yet?
It will be rolled out gradually in all regions.
Thanks for youe news
I think Samsung has completely forgotten galaxy i5800 and 5801. After I bought it in 2010 I have never seen any action for its remnant
When i tried to update my samsung galaxy k, it fails when it reaches already 100%. It pissed me off. It was very disappointing.
