Samsung unveils 4Gb LPDDR3 RAM for mobile devices

February 22, 2012 By kunal 1 Comment

Samsung today unveiled the next-generation DRAM for mobile devices at the ISSCC expo. Touted as the “mainstream DRAM for smartphones this year,” the low power DDR3 RAM is two times faster than the current generation of LPDDR2 RAMs.

Samsung showcased a 4Gb LPDDR3 (512MB) that was manufactured using a 30nm process technology. Additionally, the chip consumes same power as the LPDDR2 RAM but delivers data transmission of 1.6Gbps, which is almost double to the prevalent DRAMs.

Samsung says these chips will help to suffice the increasing demands of HD video and high-end 3D gaming.
