In addition to trimming down the smartphone range, another important piece of information to drop at Samsung’s investor conference came from Samsung Display. According to Lee Chang-hoon from Samsung Display, the company is on track to secure about 40,000 flexible display panels by end of the next year, enough to roll out a smartphone with a flexible display. When? There’s no confirmation as yet but Lee says “we plan to provide consumers with a product that has a flexible display by the end of the year,” which we assume should be next year since the timeline matches with the one Samsung shared last year.
Lee does not promise anything saying “nothing has been decided on the finished product” but if we were to guess will most likely be an extension to the Galaxy Note Edge that has got some positive reception due to its edge screen.
Samsung Display is also working on to lower the production cost of AMOLED displays to compete directly with the LCD panels and is expanding capacity of the A3 line that manufactures edge display for Galaxy Note Edge.
