Samsung has announced that they have started mass production of a 12Gb (gigabit) LPDDR4 RAM meant for mobile devices. The new DRAM is based on 20nm process technology and will be instrumental in designing next-generation mobile devices.
In comparison with the 20nm-based 8Gb LPDDR4, the 12Gb SKU is faster by more than 30 percent faster at 4,266 megabits per second (Mbps) and consumes 20 percent less energy.
Samsung says the 12Gb LPDDR4 enables 3 gigabyte (GB) or 6GB of mobile DRAM in a single package using just two chips and four chips respectively, which means there’s a high possibility Samsung’s next flagship phone could sport a 6GB DRAM.
