Samsung today confirmed that they’ve replaced JK Shin with a new head for its mobile business. DJ Koh, who was promoted to be the head of the Mobile R&D Office at the Mobile Communications Business last year has now been promoted to spearhead Samsung Electronics’ handset business.
JK Shin, however, will still hold its position as the Co-CEO and head of IT & Mobile Communications Division who will “focus on the long-term business strategy.”
According to Samsung, Koh seems a perfect candidate since he played an important role in development of Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note5 handsets.
Samsung has been producing some excellent high-end handsets but is struggling to compete with the onslaught of Apple iPhone, in particular, in the high-end segment and Chinese competitors like Xiaomi, Lenovo and Huawei in the lower and the mid-range segment.
Samsung also announced a number of other changes. BK Yoon will remain Samsung Electronics’ president and co-CEO but will forgo his position as head of the Digital Appliances Business. Additionally, JY Lee’s sister, SH Lee has also been named as the president of Samsung C&T Corp.’s fashion division with 15 other executives being promoted to new positions.
