Samsung DeX

Samsung was not short of announcements today. During the unveiling of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, Samsung also introduced a new accessory that will be compatible with the new devices. Dubbed Samsung DeX, it’s a handy accessory that resembles like a wireless fast charger accessory but in fact, transforms the Galaxy S8 or the Galaxy S8+ into a full desktop PC running on Android.

Samsung DeX comes with two USB 2.0 ports that allows users to connect peripherals like keyboard and mouse and an HDMI-out to connect the accessory with a monitor. The end result is that it allows to run multiple Android apps, features a contextual web browser and collaborations with Microsoft and Adobe, users will be able to use Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader mobile and Lightroom Mobile with a desktop-like functionality and a user interface. Samsung DeX also supports access of virtual desktops through solutions from Citrix, VMware and Amazon Web Services.

The DeX also comes with an Ethernet port, USB Type-C power-in, a cooling fan and the ability to charge the phone while it is connected so the connected phone is always juiced up when you’re ready to disconnect.

There’s no price for now but Samsung has hinted that the accessory will be available alongside the new Galaxy S devices and/or packaged with the phones in some regions.
